Bombay runs in my veins. It’s taken over me, my conscious; my mind. The trains, the crowds, the marketplaces, the beach, the roads, the quiet by lanes, the smell of Pav Bhaji, the taste of hot Pani Puri, the calmness of the sea and the din of railway stations. I live in them. I can see my house in front of my eyes, the trees from my window; I can smell wet mud of the rainy season. Where am I? I don’t know…I feel like I am living two lives, one that is physically present here and one that is mentally present there. Bombay runs in my veins, it keeps me alive. |

| Birds outside my window. |

| | happy but diaappointed | ] | Right now outside my window, on the drumstick tree, five feet away, two female Koyals are basking in the sun. The male is around somewhere, busy eating insects. On the aamla tree next to it, a Magpie Robin is singing away.
They're just sitting!!!
I want to take snap, who wouldn't. But, I cant. My ten year old, one foot long, normal camera cannot focus. It focuses on everything besides what needs to be!
They're so beautiful. I want to take photos!!!
This is not the first time gorgeous birds like these come and just sit on the trees outside my window. On previous occasions, the Golden Oriole, Sun birds, Red-vented Bulbuls-these actually made a nest in my balcony :) but flew away after a week, Fan tails, Mynas, Tailor birds, Sparrows..so MANY of them come to eat fruits, insects or just sit. I've tried taking snaps of the birds before, but like I said, no focus, the bird comes as a speck.
We won't be here for a much time. I wonder if the new house will have views like this.
I take mental pictures and I post about then here! Im happy :)
I want to scan and upload a picture that I've taken. But my printer/scanner doesnt seem to be working. I'l try again after a while. |

Its been raining here all day. Its dark, cold, wet and windy. The sun came out barely for 20 mins in the afternoon.. I hate such days, it puts a damper on everything, cant go out, its extremely boring to stay in, fed up of wactching the same repeating news on TV. Whats worse is that this weather is only going to worsen in the next 48 hours... I miss the sun! I want it to be all bright and warm and sunny. |

It is not while beauty and youth are thine own, And thy cheeks unprofaned by a tear, That the fervor and faith of a soul may be known, To which time will but make thee more dear! No, the heart that has truly loved never forgets, But as truly loves on to the close, As the sunflower turns on her god when he sets The same look which she turned when he rose!

I studied at Lady Visanji up till the forth std. I then shifted to Jamnabai Narsee. Meanwhile, the trustees of the school had changed. The school was still operational but, I have no idea about it now. |

| How birds sleep. |
[Nov. 11th, 2005|07:27 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | excited | ] |
They sleep with their partners. They stand on the branch of a tree,
actually they crouch really low in the nodal region (that part from
where thin stalks sprout, which bear leaves) of a branch. They sleep in
opposite directions, next to each other, ie, the first one crouches
literally into the node facing in one direction and the other then
crouches really close next to it but, in the opposite direction in such
a manner that its head is next to the firsts tail! In this manner each
of them is protected by predators coming in either direction. Even the
branches and leaves perfectly camouflage them. This is so cool! Its
also so smart! I just came to know all this while I was looking outside
my bedroom window!!!
You see, two nights before, I was just staring out of my window when I
noticed, what looked like a little off-whitish ball of wool or
something like that, in the nodal region of a branch on the Aawla tree
outside my window. I thought this to be strange coz I had never seen
anything on that branch before. Yea, I stare out of my window quite
often. Anyways, I decided to look at it carefully during daylight. But,
the next day I didn't see anything. I thought maybe it was some rubbish
which had fallen.
Then today, at around 6 o'clock in the evening, I glanced out of the
window. Somehow my eyes fell on the same branch and again I saw that
ball of wool. It was twilight time, and I could clearly make out that
there was something there. I stared at it real hard and made out the
form of a bird, in fact it even opened its eye just a bit and chirped!
Thats when I realized that it was a bird, a tailor bird. I moved away
quickly coz I thought it would fly away. I went back to the window
again and this time did not put my head out, just looked through the
glass and made out the body of a another one sleeping next to the first
one!:))
I seriously couldn't believe what I saw. Its really amazing! The first
thing I did was call up
bluesmoon
I have sloved my mystery about how birds sleep! :)

| Birthdays and Evolution. |
[Oct. 6th, 2005|07:27 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | happy | ] | Today is my classmate, Janice's birthday. We wanted to do something crazy, not the regular 'suprise suprise' stuff. SO, a 'Treasure Hunt' was devised for her to slove, to get her gift. It was a lot of fun, my other classmate, Divya and I made all the clues and decided their positons today morning. We made a total of 20 clues which were placed all over college, starting from the Science Bldg, to the Herbal Garden, to the Arts Bldg, to the Central Lawn, to the Main Gate, to the Triangular Terrace, to all the labs.....she basically went around college 21 times only to come back to the lab, to her blue bag which contained the gift!!! I thoroughly enjoyed doing all this; making the clues, hiding the clues, pataofying the teachers and lab assistants not to let anyone touch it or displace it and finally watching her figure them out, even help her! :) This leads to my thought on evolution...actually that isn't the right word...it should be geographical isolation. You see, none of us were close friends in BSc. Although we are from the same college and were in the same class, each of us just had our own groups and never had a chance to mingle. Its not that we thought bad of eachother, we just didn't correspond much. Now, we are studying MSc together. This also happened by sheer chance, as neither of us had thought (in my case expected) that we would get addmission at Sophia MSc Biochemistry!!! I thought of this analogy on my way home, recalled it from my SY Population Genetics studies that, we are a lot like this population group which got isolated from the main population by way of a geographical barrier, in this case MSc Biochem at Sophia, and here we are, interacting with each other, getting to know each other, sharing things with eachother, growing old.. Its like having a new beginning of sorts and it feels nice, especially when someone, who is almost like a stranger to you, helps you, comforts you, laughs with you and becomes your friend! :)
It also feels nice to think back on those Thursday afternoon lectures on Pop Gen with Medha Ma'am! Happy Birthday wishes to both of these people, one who taught me pop gen and the other, who made me think about it! :)) |

| Rain! K'scope. Mosquitoes. |
[Sep. 10th, 2005|10:22 am] |
I just wish it would stop raining.
K'scope is going on and I so want to go and attend it. This is
the first time that I am not that actively involved in its
organisation. This means that I have all the time to take part in the
really cool events. Some of these events are Kala (pottery), Footlose
(dancing), Symphonique (western dancing and singing), Dus ka Tees
(Drama) and so many more!!! But this bloody rain just does not seem to
stop! This climate is seriously acting funny. On thursday afternoon, a
perfectly sunny day with blue skies, my classmates and I were having
lunch in the canteen when we heard loud cracks. At first we thought
they must be firecrackers being burst by some Ganpati revelers. Then
they became louder and longer and more frequent. We were then sure that
they were thunders. It was seriously freaky because it was really sunny
outside, the sky was clear, no clouds and there was no wind, infact it
was quite hot. After a while things came back to normal. Funny climate.
I hope it settles down by tonight and I can go for K'scope tomorrow.
Yesterday, while I was coming home early from college (because of the
rain!) I walked by this water puddle in my compound and saw something
floating in it. On closer inspection I found what I had been searching
for. It was this really big mosquito. I've seen it before but was
unable to catch it. It is much bigger than the normal ones that I have
seen. It was alive but it could not fly because its wings were wet and
in the water. I quickly went and brought a glass bottle and transferred
it. The mosquito looks really big to me as compared to the ones I've
seen before. I was wondering what kind of a mosquito is it. I want to
take it to college and check whether its a male or a female under a
microscope, but..this rain. Is there anyway by which I can find that or
something else about it just by looking at it? I know its not an
Anopheles because it does not have its characteristic white bands on
its appendages. Any ideas </a></b></a> dianaparadise?

[May. 19th, 2005|09:30 pm] |
Hello everyone!!! It was really very nice to see you all replying to my post! Yes, the name bluesmuse cannot hit any closer, to the heart, that is! This was a name that the other blue came up with sometime back and the name just got stuck in my head and after trying numerous names while signing up, this one was accepted and I decided to stick with it too. Voilà! Oh yeah, my last and final (I hope) exam got over yesterday, so now I have some time to do other stuff but, this also means that, the worst- the results are still to come. Ok, I'm not going to dwell on it any more! Just going to enjoy the few days of my vacation!
So, yesterday, to enjoy the first day of our vacation, my friends and I went out for lunch after the exam and spent the entire day together...here's what we did.. Because there is a lot to say, I have decided to post it over a series of posts..here's the first.. Lunch at Café Samovar. After the 3 hour exam ended, besides our brain, our stomachs needed a nice break. So, off we went to Café Samovar at Jehangir Art Gallery. I chose this place because one, I really like the food and the ambiance..I mean what could be better than all those beautiful art shows all around! Secondly, because I wanted my friends to see this place. You see, I have received a lot of gyaan about good food and nice places to go from a lot people on LJ and ofcourse from the moon! ;) So, I think the best thing to do is to pass this knowledge on to people whom I know! Pass on the tradition!! Anyways, this is what we had at Cafe´ Samovar: Chicken Vindaloo, Goan Prawn Curry, Kabule Chole, Vegetable Pulaw and Chappatis. All the dishes were really good, I liked the Chicken Vindaloo the most. The Goan Prawn Curry was made with coconut milk and was very tasty, the Kabuli Chole were ok, nothing much can be said about it. Then again, they do not have much of a choice in vegetarian sabzis. After having our fill, we went to check out the painting exhibitions at the gallery. I enjoyed them and for the girls, their first experience at a gallery was quite nice too! We saw the works of 5 artists. Each of which had different themes. There was this one artist whose worked I liked, he painted by giving a wash to the canvas and then paint and so on. This one painting that I liked was of a woman standing at twilight on a balcony. She like the typical Indian beauty was well endowed but yet not vulgar or cheap..just incredibly sensuous. She was beautifully dressed in typical Hindu mythology style..in a red/orange lehenga and with lots of jewelery. She stood on her balcony, holding a small hand mirror in one hand and the other raised to her forehead from the side placing a tikka on it. It was realy very nice..and from far it looked so real! There were many others..of landscapes fields, beaches which were nice too but, that beauty on the balcony held my attention. I think such styles potray the real beauty of an Indian woman very beautifully, yes she was adorned from head to toe and some might find that very vulgar, but I think that there is beauty in it. It doesn't matter that there is so much jewellery on her or anything like that what matters is how just looking at it your senses take you to a different place how it makes you wonder about her poise, her actions..well, how she transforms from a painting to a person. We then decided to head towards Colaba Causeway for..well what else shopping! On our way we passed by the Prince of Wales Museum. Aditi and I wanted to go in and have a look but the others didn't think much of it, but nevertheless, both of us walked in and the rest had to follow! Hehe! More on the museum tomorrow! |
